Milton Stensland passed away peacefully on Saturday July 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after being diagnosed with brain cancer. He lived each day with dignity, grace and optimism. Visitation will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church (301 1st street NW) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15th. A service celebrating his life will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday July 16th followed by a reception at the church. Milt was born in December 1931 to Maurice and Cora Stensland of Mabel Minnesota. During high school he enjoyed basketball, 4H, and life on the farm with his two sisters Arleen and Mavis. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1956. Milt married his loving wife Jaci Stensland in 1956. He practiced Veterinary medicine in White Bear Lake and Grand Meadow, Minnesota before moving to Austin where he practiced for over 30 years. He served as President of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association, the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Council, and the Minnesota Veterinary Alumni Association. He was elected Minnesota's Veterinarian of the Year in 1980 and into the Mower County Livestock Hall of Fame in 1995. He was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Rotary International, Sertoma, the YMCA, the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, and served on the boards of several community organizations. Milt was an avid golfer that enjoyed rounds of golf (regardless of weather conditions) with many of the same friends at the Austin Country Club over the past 50 years, as well as new friends in Naples, Florida. He will be missed by his wife Jaci; his children, Jill Gilbertson (Dave Gilbertson), Mike Stensland (Marie Stensland), Jeff Stensland (Farleigh Earhart), and Juli Stensland (Paul Nordin). He will also be missed by sister Arleen Soltow (Neil Soltow), five grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. Condolences may be expressed at www.mayerfh.com.
