Cyrilla Rockers

d. February 7, 2015

Cyrilla Elizabeth Rockers, age 98, of Austin, passed from this life on February 7, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society Comforcare. Cyrilla Mueller was born on November 28, 1916 – the firstborn of 13 children to John and Elizabeth Mueller. She grew up on a farm in the German-speaking community of Meyer, Iowa during the Great Depression years, and moved to Austin in 1938 to work as a house-keeper and cook for the H. H. Corey family. She married Robert Rockers (originally from Kansas) June 22, 1940, and they began raising their family in and around Austin, interrupted by Bob’s service in the Pacific during WWII. Bob and Cyrilla were active in Queen of Angels and St. Augustine parishes and their children all graduated from Pacelli High School. One of Cyrilla’s proud accomplishments was that she earned her GED later in life. She loved to cook and bake – and her family prized her homemade breads and gooey caramel rolls. She cooked for the sisters at the Pacelli convent for several years, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Care Center Auxiliary, Legion of Mary, and W.C.C.W. of St. Augustine’s Church. Cyrilla was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob in 1990, an infant daughter Mary, dearest grandchildren John Trudeau, and Angela and Heather Rockers. Also preceding her in death were siblings John (infant), Viola, Evelyn (Brumm), Marvin, and Emil, and many special sister-in laws and brother-in-laws. She is survived by nine children, Karen (David) Trudeau, Dio (Myrna) Rockers, Linda (Bruce) Schirmers, Peggy (Steve Lukassen) Larson, Vicki (Arlo) Sanvick, Tim (Marti) Rockers, Mike (Lori) Rockers, Dan (Betty) Rockers, and Mario (Cyndee See) Rockers. She is also survived by siblings Elmer (Mary) Mueller, Delphin (Mary Ann) Mueller, Lavern (Gloria) Mueller, Maxine Halbach, Irene Hemann, Anita Adams, and Mary (Red) Mullenbach. Cyrilla also leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild – as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was filled with common sense, love, and wisdom. Her wry wit and modest strength will be deeply missed – but lovingly remembered in every hand-stitched quilt and crocheted afghan she created for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. “…Well done, good and faithful servant! ...” MATTHEW 25:21 A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 pm CCW rosary and a 6:45 pm wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 pm and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
